FACTORS INFLUENCING OVERALL BUILDING EFFICIENCY.

Summary

THE PAPER IS A DISCUSSION OF THE FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE OVER-ALL BUILDING EFFICIENCY. SOME OF THE MAJOR DECISION-MAKING CONSIDERATIONS FOR EACH OF THESE FACTORS ARE PRESENTED IN TERMS OF THE ROLES OF THE ARCHITECT AND ENGINEER. TO ILLUSTRATE THESE CONSIDERATIONS, A CASE STUDY FOR AN UNDERGROUND LIBRARY IS USED. AN UNDERGROUND BUILDING WAS SELECTED FOR DISCUSSION BECAUSE IT REPRESENTS A DESIGN SOLUTION THAT REQUIRES MUCH COOPERATION BETWEEN THESE PROFESSIONS IF ENERGY WASTE IS TO BE MINIMIZED.
