Falling film evaporation heat transfer of ammonia / oil mixtures on a horizontal smooth tube.

Number: 0194

Author(s) : AKADA I., NISHIDA K., INOUE N.

Summary

The evaporation heat transfer characteristics of an ammonia–oil mixture falling film on a horizontal stainless smooth tube were investigated in this study. The test tube had an outer diameter of 19.1 mm. The experimental conditions were as follows: heat fluxes of 10 and 20 kWm-2, film Reynolds numbers ranging from 150 to 1000, saturation temperatures of −5 and 10 °C, and oil concentrations ranging from 0% to 1.0% mass fraction. Under all experimental conditions, the flow characteristics of the falling film evaporation were observed, and the evaporation heat transfer coefficients were measured. The heat transfer coefficients for the falling film evaporation decreased with increasing oil concentration and were influenced by the film flow conditions. Under specific conditions, the measured heat transfer coefficients became constant when the oil concentration exceeded a particular value.
