Summary

A NEW TYPE OF CRYOGENIC TEMPERATURE FATIGUE TESTING MACHINE WAS INSTALLED IN 1983 AT THENATIONAL RESEARCH INSTITUTE FOR METALS, TUKUBA LABORATORIES. THE MACHINE'S MAIN FEATURE IS THE CONTINUOUS OPERATION AT 4 K WITHOUT NEED TO REPLENISH LIQUID HELIUM. A CLOSED-LOOP HELIUM RECONDENSATION SYSTEM MAKES IT POSSIBLE TO HAVE FATIGUE TESTS AT 4 K LONGER THAN 1,000 H. THE TOTAL OPERATION TIME REACHED 5,500 H OVER 7 YEARS.
