Fins with temperature dependent surface heat flux. 1. Single heat transfer mode.

Type of article: Article

Summary

The thermal characteristics of a single fin, with and without heat transfer at its tip, were studied. The heat transfer coefficient was assumed to vary with a power-law-type formula. The problem was categorized into three regimes, based on the value of the exponent. The temperature distribution and heat transfer rate are given in implicit forms and solved exactly. No solution was found when the fin parameter exceeded a specific value for a negative exponent. However, when it was smaller than this value, which is related to the thermal instability, two solutions were found. Results from analysis are compared with experimental data.
