Summary

AUSTRALIAN STANDARD 1668 CONCERNING FIRE PRECAUTIONS IS UNDER MODIFICATION. THE REQUIREMENTS ARE BEING EXTENDED TO COVER ALL AIR-HANDLING SYSTEMS IN MULTI-STOREY BUILDINGS, AND CONFLICT WITH THE BUILDING CODES WILL BE AVOIDED. THE CHANGES REFER TO SMOKE CONTROL, SMOKE VENTING, AND PRESSURISATION OF NON-AFFECTED COMPARTMENTS, FLOORS AND ESCAPE ROUTES. IN PARTICULAR, PRESSURE DIFFERENTIALS TO BE MAINTAINED DURING A FIRE ARE SPECIFIED, INCLUDING THEIR EFFECT ON ESCAPE DOORS. SMOKE DETECTORS AND PROTECTION METHODS ARE COVERED. D.W.H.
