First test results of a V-161 Stirling refrigerator.

Author(s) : STEIMLE F., SCHIKORA H.

Summary

At the Institut für Angewandte Thermodynamik und Klimatechnik (Germany), a V-161 Stirling refrigerator that uses the environmentally friendly inert gas helium as working medium has been tested. The aim of this research is to develop a refrigerator that can compete with currently used systems. The intended application of the machine is freezing in supermarkets at temperatures of about -35 °C. The machine will also be tested at lower temperatures down to -90 °C. The lower the temperature of the cold produced, the higher is the efficiency of Stirling refrigerators. Especially at low refrigeration temperatures, Stirling refrigerators are quite compact and cheap.
