Summary

Absorption refrigeration can satisfy an increasing cooling demand using cheap solar energy or waste heat. However, implementation in residential and automotive air conditioning requires considerable reduction in size. This study proposes a compact finned plate design for an adiabatic absorber, to be coupled with a droplet flow regime. Droplet dynamics in a circular pin finned plate is investigated with an analytical model using a variational approach. The model is validated with an experimental campaign carried out with the help of a high speed camera. Lastly, heat and mass transfer equations are analytically solved for a single falling droplet of LiBr solution to predict the absorption behavior.
