Summary

The results are summarized of recent research on methods of reducing the incidences of skin flecks (in apple cv. Elstar) in storage. These methods include storage at 0.5 deg C in 1.2% O2 and 0.5% CO2 (rather than 1.5 deg C in 1.2% O2 and 3% CO2), early harvesting, additional fruit thinning, and avoiding the use of calcium sprays based on calcium chloride.
