Type of article: Article
Summary
IN INVESTIGATING THE NATURE OF THE COMPONENTS OF COLD ISCHEMIC DAMAGE, THE AUTHORS CONCLUDED THERE WAS STRONG EVIDENCE THAT PROBLEMS ARISING FROM LACK OF CONTROL OF OXYGEN METABOLISM AND IONICHOMEOSTASIS ARE CLOSE TO EVENTS DURING CELL DAMAGE FOLLOWING COLD ISCHEMIA AND REPERFUSION. SOME OUT-STANDING DOUBTS WOULD BE RESOLVED BY IMPROVED METHODS OF IN VIVO MEASUREMENT OF RADICAL GENERATED EVENTS, OTHERS WILL BE SETTLED FROM BETTER CHOICE OF EXPERIMENTAL MODELS TO TEST SPECIFIC LINKS OF THE CHAIN.
