Type of article: Article

Summary

THE AUTHOR SUMMARISES THE COLLECTION PROCESSES FOR EMBRYOS IN ARTIFICIALLY INSEMINATED COWS AND THEIR TRANSFER INTO RECEIVERS AND DESCRIBES THE THREE FREEZING METHODS FOR THESE EMBRYOS, EITHER IN GLASS TUBES (SEMI-RAPID AND RAPID PROCESSES) OR IN STRAWS. IN THE CASE OF THE TRANSFER OF FRESH EMBRYOS (TRANSPLANTED WITHIN 6 HRS AFTER COLLECTION) 60% NON RETURN MAY BE EXPECTED. THIS RATE IS ESTIMATED AT 56.2% WITH SEMI-RAPIDLY FROZEN EMBRYOS. THE NUMBER OF TRANSFERS OF RAPIDLY FROZEN EMBRYOS IS STILL INSUFFICIENT FOR DETERMINING NON RETURN RATES. IT IS ABOUT 50% FOR EMBRYOS FROZEN IN STRAWS. G.G.
