Summary
A mathematical model for heat and mass transfer in soils at temperatures below 0°C is established from experimental observations and theoretical considerations. Numerical procedures are suggested for the solution of the resulting coupled and uncoupled Stefan problems. Finite difference and finite element analyses are presented for several cases of technical interest.
