Summary

AN EXPERIMENTAL STUDY WAS PERFORMED TO INVESTIGATE THE FREEZING CHARACTERISTICS OF POROUS MEDIA WETTED BY WATER. FOR THE EXPERIMENTAL SAMPLE A SAND WAS USED. THE EXPERIMENTS WERE CARRIED OUT AT THE VOLUMETRIC WATER CONTENT 0.10 AND 0.25. THE POROSITY WAS VARIED FROM 0.46 TO 0.55 AND THE COOLING RATES WERE 2 AND 13 K/H. THE EFFECTS OF THE POROSITY, THE WATER CONTENT AND THE COOLING RATE FOR THE DEGREE OF THE SUPERCOOLING AND THE RELEASED HEAT FLUX WERE CLARIFIED.
