THE ARTICLE DESCRIBES AN EXPERIMENTAL SOLAR ENERGY SYSTEM FOR RAISING STEAM. FOURTEEN ROWS OF PARABOLIC TROUGHS, MOUNTED IN A NORTH-SOUTH DIRECTION, HOLD 10,000 SQ FEET OF ALUMINISED PLASTIC FILM ON ALUMINIUM PANELS. THEY MAY BE ROTATED ALONG ONE AXIS TO CATCH THE SUN'S RAYS. THE RAYS ARE CONCENTRATED ON A RECEIVER TUBE, COATED BLACK, CONTAINING PRESSURISED WATER. THIS TRANSFERS THE HEAT TO A STEAM FLASH TANK. STEAM FORMS AT 487 K (214 DEG C) AND IS FED INTO A STEAM LINE FROM BOILERS FIRED BY NATURAL GAS. THE STEAM FLOWS TO A FRYER HEAT EXCHANGER. C.R.F.
