Type of article: Article
Summary
Fuel cells are undoubtedly the most promising state-of-the-art technologies both energetically and environmentally speaking. As they become widespread, they will revolutionize the small cogeneration sector even more than the car industry where their large scale diffusion is due to occur over the next four years. For the moment, five types of cells have been developed and three of them have already reached a sufficient degree of maturity. The high electric efficiency and the very low emission of pollutants make them remarkably better than traditional systems with endothermic engines.
