Fuzzy-PID control of fresh air for a VAV air-conditioning system.

Author(s) : GU X., WANG H.

Summary

Nowadays, the variable air volume (VAV) air conditioning system has gradually become popular in China because of its significant energy saving. Fresh air control for VAV air conditioning systems is important in the aspects of saving energy and improving indoor air quality. However, having the characteristics of non-linear, time varying and frequently changing of pollutants emission rate, the control system can not work effectively with conventional PID method. Regarding indoor CO2 level as controlled object, this paper adopts fuzzy logic to modify parameters of PID controller timely, so that the output of controlled object can follow the reference model well. Under the MATLAB platform, several simulation experiments have been carried out in accordance with actual conditions by altering given values, changing controlled object characteristic and adding disturbance. The results show that the proposed method is not only robust, but also it gives fast dynamic response time, and has the better control performance than PID controller.
