THE DESIGN OF HEAT EXCHANGERS, WHICH MINIMIZES FOULING, IS EXAMINED AS A FUNCTION OF THE TYPE OF EXCHANGER, OF ITS GEOMETRY AND OPERATION CONDITIONS. THREE APPROACHES MAKING IT POSSIBLE TO ESTIMATE THE TOLERANCE TO FOULING ARE PRESENTE THEY ARE BASED ON THE RESISTANCE TO FOULING, ON THE CLEANLINESS OF THE EXCHANGER AND ON THE MODIFICATION OF THE HEAT TRANSFER RESULTING FROM FOULING.
