Summary

LOW TEMPERATURE ACCLIMATION OF ORGANISMS AND THEIR RESISTANCE TO COLD AT ALL STAGES OF DEVELOPMENT ARE REVIEWED. THE MAIN STAGES ON THE HISTORY OF CRYOBIOLOGY ARE DESCRIBED. IT IS SUPPOSED THAT THE RESISTANCE TO COLD MAY HAVE TWO ORIGINAL WAYS OF DEVELOPMENT. THE AUTHOR SUGGESTS TO DIVIDE CRYOBIOLOGY INTO SOME SUB-BRANCHES, ALTHOUGH IN ORDER TO VISUALIZE AND RESOLVE GENERAL PROBLEMS A SYNTHETIC SYSTEMATIC APPROACH IS NEEDED. THE SEQUENCE OF CRYOINJURIES IN THE PROCESS OF FREEZING AND THAWING AND STORAGE AT LOW TEMPERATURES IS SCHEMATICALLY PRESENTED.
