Summary

AFNOR makes propositions; international work is taken into account. The interesting symbols are the graphical ones used in operating diagrams, those which describe first the operating characteristics of plant, and show components, their respective location and their hydraulic, pneumatic, mechanical, and electrical links and data transmissions. Generally, these symbols are not used for drawings; they are neither man-machine interface symbols such as pictograms and icons, even if there may exist analogies between certain operating symbols and pictograms.
