Type of article: Article

Summary

GROUND FREEZING WAS USED, IN THE PRESENT EXAMPLE, FOR BUILDING, UNDER THE SEINE, ONE OF THE ACCESSES TO THE FUTURE ST-MICHEL RER STATION. THIS TECHNIQUE, ALREADY USED WITH BRINE FOR THE BUILDING OF METRO, UTILISES LIQUID NITROGEN IN THIS CASE AND BUILDS AN ACTUAL COLD WALL. ITS ADVANTAGES ARE STRESSED: INCREASED SAFETY DUE TO EASY CONTROL AND THE ABSENCE OF POLLUTION, GREATER RAPIDITY THANKS TO THE GOOD MECHANICAL RESISTANCE OF THE ICE WALL, DECREASE IN THE SURFACE AREA OF WORKING SITES.
