HEAT CAPACITY OF POLYSTYRENE FOAMS.

Author(s) : FERNANDEZ MARTIN F.

Summary

THE HEAT CAPACITY OF FIVE 15 AND 35 KG/M3 RIGID (EXPANDED AND EXTRUDED) POLYSTYRENE FOAMS WAS MEASURED IN THE RANGE 233 TO 313 K(-40 TO 40 DEG C) BY DIFFERENTIAL SCANNING CALORIMETRY. ALL THERMAL INSULANTS AND THEIR POLYMER BASES PRESENTED DIFFERENT TRANSITIONS, ALTHOUGH SMALL, OVER THE WHOLE TEMPERATURE RANGE. ALTHOUGH THE EFFECT OF THE TYPE OF FOAM AND APPARENT DENSITY WAS OBSERVED, AN AVERAGE VALUE WAS ADOPTED FOR ALL SAMPLES AND EXPRESSED AS A FUNCTION OF TEMPERATURE BY MEANS OF A QUADRATIC EQUATION.
