HEAT GAIN CORRELATIONS BASED ON THE ASHRAE TRANSFER FUNCTION METHOD.

Summary

CALCULATION OF SPACE HEAT GAIN BY CONDUCTION THROUGH EXTERIOR WALLS BY USING THE ASHRAE TRANSFER FUNCTION METHOD IS COMPLICATED AND TIME CONSUMING BECAUSE HEAT GAIN AT ANY HOUR IS EXPRESSED IN TERMS OF THE HEAT GAIN OF PREVIOUS HOURS, THUS REQUIRING ITERATIVE CALCULATIONS FOR AT LEAST 4 CONSECUTIVE DAYS. THE STUDY PRESENTS A SIMPLE AND EXPLICIT CORRELATION, WHICH IS FASTER THAN THE TRANSFER FUNCTION APPROACH BECAUSE IT GIVES HEAT GAIN AT ANY HOUR WITHOUT BEING NECESSARY TO CALCULATE HEAT GAIN OF PREVIOUS HOURS. EXAMPLES ARE GIVEN FOR WALLS LOCATED IN THE ATHENS AREA.
