THE COLD CANADIAN WINTER MAKES A GOOD TEST ZONE FOR AIR-AIR AND GROUND-AIR HEAT PUMPS. SURVEYS MADE WITHIN THE PAST 20 YEARS OF A TOTAL OF 1,284 INSTALLATIONS HAVE SHOWN AN INCREASE OF SEASONAL PERFORMANCE FACTOR FROM 1. 43 TO 1.70 WITH IMPROVED DESIGNS AND DEFROST METHODS. GROUND HEAT SOURCE UNITS SHOWED FIGURES UP TO 2.42. THE LATER SURVEYS INCLUDE AN ANALYSIS OF SERVICE FAULTS. A.R.T.
