Type of article: Article

Summary

An overview is presented of the considerable progress during the last twenty years in the field of heat transfer between a rigid wall and various gas-solid particulate systems. Heat transfer from a rigid wall to fixed, agitated, or fluidized beds, as well as to fixed beds with fluid flow, has been covered in this paper. A special example of indirect cooling of high performance computers is given. Throughout the article, the principle of two resistances, a contact and a penetration resistance, in series is used and discussed. Correlations between Nusselt and Péclet numbers are discussed about heat transfer at the walls of tubular reactor.
