Summary

IN ORDER TO ENHANCE THE HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT OF A FIN USED IN THE FINNED TUBE HEAT EXCHANGER, NEWLY DESIGNED FIN SURFACES, ESPECIALLY OF SMALL DIAMETER PIPES WERE DEVELOPED. THE EXPERIMENTS WERE MADE BY THE TRANSIENT TESTING TECHNIQUE USING PLASTIC FINS 4 TIMES THE SIZE OF METAL FINS. HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT DATA AND PRESSURE DROP WERE TRANSFORMED TO METAL FIN DATA. THE REASON FOR THIS ENHANCEMENT WAS CLARIFIED BY CALCULATIONS.
