Summary
The mean heat transfer coefficients of R22 and R407C in the coaxial counterflow evaporator (20 mm ID) of a refrigerant vapour compression plant have been experimentally measured. The results illustrate that the R22 heat transfer coefficients is always greater than that of R407C. Furthermore, a comparison carried out between the experimental data and those predicted by means of the credited literature relationships showed a strongly overprediction for R407C coefficients. In this paper the authors also presented an experimental apparatus accomplished to measured both evaporating fluids pressure drop and local heat transfer coefficients. The test section consists of a 6 mm stainless steel horizontal tube that had been uniformly heated; the thermal heat flux can vary within 8 and 34 W/m2, the refrigerant mass flux can vary between 200 and 840 kg/m2, the evaporating temperature can be fixed within the range -35 to -0 °C.
