Heat transformers as a possible technology for industrial waste heat recovery in Canada.

Author(s) : ROUSSE D. R., GIGUERE D.

Summary

The specific process targeted in the Canadian pulp and paper industry, is the preheating of black liquor from 80 to 113 deg C with contaminated water from the kraft washer at 95 deg C. The proposed demonstration prototype to be built at the Energy diversification research laboratory will have an output power of 30 kilowatts, will recover heat from a source at 95 deg C and release it at 130 deg C with a COP of 0.48. The design, assembly and testing of this prototype will contribute to develop a Canadian know-how in absorption heat pumps and will also demonstrate the technical feasibility of such systems.
