High-efficiency refrigeration fan motors.

Author(s) : BAKER G. N.

Summary

Application of new-technology systems includes higher-efficiency condenser and evaporator motors and fans to provide the refrigeration appliance industry with lower energy cost alternatives. A brushless permanent magnet (BPM) motor was developed with low-cost manufacturing assembly features, high-efficiency fan blades, and versatility for both condenser and evaporator applications. The new BPM motor can reduce input power by 9% and reduce input current by 20%. In commercial refrigeration, with its typical high-duty cycles, the energy savings can be substantial.
