STUDY OF THE RESPONSE TIME ASSOCIATED WITH A THERMOMETER. REVIEW OF FOUR TYPES OF HIGH SPEED THERMOMETERS: SILICON-ON-SAPPHIRE (SOS) THERMOMETERS, MINIATURE DIODES, FOIL THERMOCOUPLES AND FINE-WIRE RESISTANCE THERMOMETERS. RESPONSE TIMES RANGE FROM 300 NSEC TO 10 MSEC, DEPENDING ON THE TEMPERATURE AND THE TYPE OF THERMOMETER. A FEW COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE DEVICES EXIST, BUT OFTEN A CUSTOM MADE THERMOMETER IS REQUIRED.
