Type of article: Article

Summary

The article first traces the early history of refrigeration associations in Germany, which were more often than not industry cartels rather than engineering or research institutes, which were to develop later. The most important of these institutes, the Deutsche Kälteverein, was founded in 1909 by the German delegation to the first International Congress of Refrigeration, held in Paris. Although Germany's most important refrigeration association, it remained relatively small and was limited to academically instructed engineers.
