Summary

MOST DEFROST SYSTEMS OPERATE ON A FIXED INTERVAL INITIATION AND A DEFROST TIME TERMINATED BY A RISE IN EVAPORATOR TEMPERATURE OR PRESSURE. THE ADAPTIVE SYSTEM MEASURES THE TIME NEEDED TO DEFROST A COIL AND COMPARES IT WITH A PREDETERMINED OPTIMAL TIME. THIS IS THEN USED AS THE BASIS FOR THE NEXT DEFROST INITIATION, USING THE SYSTEM DESIGNER'S ESTIMATE OF AN OPTIMAL FROST ACCUMULATION PERIOD. SUCH A SYSTEM IS PARTICULARLY APPLICABLE TO EVAPORATORS AFFECTED BY SEASONAL HUMIDITY VARIATIONS. D.W.H.
