How firm a foundation for screw compressors?

Summary

Although screw compressors produce little vibration, the critical point at lobe-passing frequency is at relatively high frequency. Damping requires less mass than with low speed equipment, but nevertheless is essential. The concrete housekeeping or foundation pad used must be fixed securely to a concrete floor, and the compressor, or total package, carefully levelled and grouted in. Care must be taken to eliminate stress on pipe connections and advice should be sought on vibration isolation for the unit and piping. D.W.H.
