How heat pipes have evolved.
Evolution des caloducs.
Author(s) : BRICARD A.
Type of article: Article
Summary
The operating principle of the heat pipe as a thermal link between a heat source and a cold source is detailed, and its advantages are presented. The diverse applications of heat pipes and thermosiphons are then discussed, including cooling of electric and electronic components, incorporation into exchangers and air conditioners, cooling of foundry moulds, ovens used in materials science, homogenizing and cooling of chips using micro-heat pipes in the laboratory, etc. Steady-state operating limits of heat pipes were modelled, both with analytical and digital multi-dimensional models.
