Summary

ULO (ultra low oxygen) cooling rooms at temperatures around zero degrees have specific requirements for humidification systems. Entrance of fresh air should be avoided and droplets need to be small enough. The Flander's Centre of Postharvest Technology and MeBioS, both connected to the Catholic University of Leuven, calculated the criteria for these humidification systems. Moreover the influence of an increase of RH on the moisture loss of fruits was simulated. The results are clear: it is possible increase the RH by humidification systems, but the homogeneity remains the same.
