ICE STORAGE APPLICATION TO AN ILLINOIS HOSPITAL.

Summary

A 30,600 MEGAJOULE ICE STORAGE SYSTEM WAS DESIGNED AND INSTAL LED IN A HOSPITAL AS THE BEST MEANS OF ALLEVIATING AN EXISTING COOLING TOWER NOISE PROBLEM. SELECTION OF THE ICE STORAGE OPTION FOLLOWED AN INTENSIVE EXAMINATION OF NUMEROUS ALTERNATIVE METHODS TO ALLEVIATE THE PROBLEM. A 1,300 KILOWATT SCREW COMPRESSOR AND TWIN OUTSIDE ICE BANKS WERE UTILIZED AS WELL AS A MICROCOMPUTER TO IMPLEMENT AN INNOVATIVE SEMIAUTOMATIC CONTROL METHODOLOGY. THE SYSTEM HASNOT ONLY SOLVED THE NOISE PROBLEM BUT SAVED THE INCREASING AMOUNTS AS ELECTRIC RATES RISE.
