Summary

Storage of ice, in the form of cylindrical layers that grow on the external surface of a tube bank immersed in water is regarded as a convenient solution for applications subjected to large variations in refrigeration load that use chilled water at temperatures in the range 4 to 7 deg C, as required in the milk industry or in air conditioning. Current technical solutions for controlling the refrigerating circuit, stirring and distributing water inside the tank are reviewed and discussed; the present technology of insulated tanks is described.
