Identification of contaminants, exposures, effects and control options for construction-renovation activities.

Summary

Although the majority of the published work dealing with construction or renovation airborne contaminant control refers to hospitals, construction and particularly renovation of all buiding types should include similar protocols for controlling airborne contaminants. A risk assessment should be made for the activities proposed and a cost-benefit analysis prepared to determine what control measures are most appropriate. Control measures have been developed for many specific priorities: source reduction, airflow from clean areas into contaminated areas and appropriate barriers.
