IMPROVING FLOW DISTRIBUTION IN CENTRIFUGAL COMPRESSORS.

Author(s) : POLAK P., ROBERTS B. D.

Summary

THE PAPER CONTRASTS TRADITIONAL THEORY WITH OBSERVED FLOW PATTERNS AND DEVELOPS EXPLANATIONS BASED ON DENSITY VARIATION, SPILL-OVER OR RAPID CHANGE OF CURVATURE. IMPELLERS MODIFIED IN THE LIGHT OF THESE EXPLANATIONS HAVE SHOWN EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENTS OF 1-2%. SOME SUCCESSES WITH FLOW VISUALIZATION ARE DESCRIBED.
