Summary

BECAUSE OF HEALTH COMPLAINTS AND HIGH ENERGY COSTS, EFFORTS HAVE BEEN MADE TO IMPROVE OFFICE AIR CONDITIONING. FASTAIR FLOWS MAKE POSSIBLE HIGH AIR CHANGE RATES, BUT CREATE UNCOMFORTABLE DRAFTS AND USE A LOT OF ENERGY. SOFT VENTILATION IS ONE SOLUTION. THE AUTHOR DISCUSSES THE EFFORTS THAT HAVE BEEN MADE TO CALCULATE VENTILATION NEEDS PRECISELY, WHILE THE BUILDING IS BEING PLANNED. IN ORDER TO VERIFY THE FINDINGS FROM A MATHEMATICAL MODEL, AN ACTUAL, FULL-SCALE (7 X 4.5 X 3 M) MODEL WAS BUILT. MEASUREMENTS WERE IN OVERALL AGREEMENT WITH CALCULATIONS. GIVEN ITS COMPLEXITY AND EXPENSE, THE MATHEMATICAL MODEL IS ONLY FOR SPECIAL CASES. FOR ORDINARY CASES, AN AIR-FLOW < ATLAS > AND TRACING METHODS ARE TO BE PROPOSED IN 1992. M. C.
