Summary

A review is presented of the latest advances in the thermo-hydraulics of two-phase flow during the condensation of pure vapours inside tubes. The paper deals with the following subjects: flow patterns, the prediction of heat transfer, pressure loss and void fraction with smooth tubes, the effect of the presence of oil and enhancement techniques based on internally finned or grooved tubes. According to the authors, the Wallis correlation, corrected by the Mickey factor, gives the best prediction of pressure loss, as shown by plots that include 647 experimental data from different sources.
