INDICATIONS AND LIMITS OF CRYOTHERAPY TREATMENTS OF ANGIOMAS.

Author(s) : MUTI E., FONTANA A. M.

Summary

IT IS WELL KNOWN THAT THE ENDOTHELIUMS OF SMALL VESSELS OR VASCULAR POOLS (TYPICAL OF HAEMANGIOMAS) ARE HIGHLY SENSITIVE TO FREEZING, WHEREAS LARGER VESSELS, AND CONNECTIVE TISSUE, OFFER A REMARKABLE RESISTANCE TO CRYOLESIONS. HENCE, CRYOGENIC ACTION WAS APPLIED IN THE TREATMENT OF UNTISSULAR ANGIOMAS, CHARACTERIZED BY VASCULAR POOLSAND THIN WALLS. THE AUTHORS EXPLAIN THE REASONS FOR THE HIGHER RESISTANCE ENCOUNTERED WITH OTHER TYPES OF ANGIOMAS (MATURE ANGIOMAS), AS DEMONSTRATED BY EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES AS WELL AS THEIR CLINICAL EXPERIENCE.
