Summary

The building was originally designed as an open air passageway but soon became used for meetings and office functions; however this led to complaints that in winter it was too cold and in summer, too hot. The "Commission Kouffeld" was asked to advise how improvements could be effected and also to supervise its realisation. Their solutions such as providing extra heating, shading, natural ventilation with motorised windows, with mechanical cooling and a control system to meet specifications, are discussed in the article. The system is monitored throughout all seasons and is meeting expected criteria satisfactorily.
