Summary

PERFORMANCES OF LITHIUM-BROMIDE ABSORPTION MACHINES ARE ANALYSEDWITH REFERENCE TO ENTROPY GENERATION BY IRREVERSIBILITIES. A QUASI-REVERSIBLE CYCLE IS DEFINED AS ONE THAT OPERATES WITH NEGLIGIBLE PRESSURE DROPS EXCEPT FOR LIQUID THROTTLING AND MINIMIZES HEAT TRANSFER IRREVERSIBILITIES BY USING INFINITELY EXTENDED SURFACE HEAT EXCHANGERS AND AN EQUAL HEAT CAPACITY RATIO FOR LIQUID SOLUTIONS. FOR BOTH REAL AND QUASI-REVERSIBLE CYCLES, CONSIDERED AS A BORDERLINE CASE, THE COP IS CALCULATED AS A FUNCTION OF INTERNAL CYCLE TEPR THE COMPARISON BETWEEN THE REAL AND THE QUASI-REVERSIBLE CYCLE ENABLES ONE TO CONCLUDE THAT A REDUCTION OF IRREVERSIBILITIES RESULTS IN AN IMPROVED COP AND SUBSTANTIALLY LOWER GENERATOR TEMPERATURE.
