Summary
The paper reports on an innovative vortex tube showing interesting performance. Using compressed air at 0.72 megapascal and 22 deg C, it is possible to obtain refrigeration in the range from -28 to 10 deg C and heating from 30 to 120 deg C; the ratio of the hot effect to the cold effect varies from 0.1, for 10/120 deg C operating temperatures, to 11, for -28/30 deg C operating temperatures. This system has been used to control the temperature of a chrome plating plant.
