Innovative system design in supermarkets for the 21st century.

Author(s) : ARIAS J., LUNDQVIST P.

Summary

In Sweden, the potential for enhanced energy efficiency is considerable. The ongoing phase-out of CFC refrigerants is a golden opportunity to address energy efficiency issues. A continuing interest in natural refrigerants such as ammonia or propane has led to an increased interest in indirect systems with minimised refrigerant charge. Several attractive "new" solutions are therefore introduced today. Examples of these are CO2 brine systems for freezing gondolas, condenser cooling with district cooling (return pipe) etc. Several of these concepts are described in the paper along with a description of the general system characteristics and environmental concerns (TEWI).
