Summary

THE PAPER DESCRIBES A REFRIGERATOR WHICH EMPLOYS BOTH THE DILUTION OF HELIUM 3 IN HELIUM 4 AND HELIUM 3 OR HELIUM 4 EVAPORATION CYCLES, TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE TOTAL HEAT LOAD. THE REFRIGERATOR OPERATES OVER THE TEMPERATURE RANGE 0.028-4.2 K. USING THE EVAPORATION CYCLE, THE REGION ABOVE 0.75 K CAN BE REACHED, WHICH IS INACCESSIBLE USING DILUTION. IN THE JOINT MODE WHEN BOTH THE EVAPORATION AND DILUTION CYCLES ARE IN USE, THE TOTAL COOLING POWER AT T BETWEEN 0.4 AND 0.75 K CAN BE MUCH HIGHER THAN THE COOLING POWER OF THE HELIUM 3-HELIUM 4 DILUTION CYCLE ALONE.
