A HELIUM 3/HELIUM 4 DILUTION REFRIGERATOR IS DESCRIBED WHERE THEINSTREAMING HELIUM 3 IS PRECOOLED AND LIQUEFIED BY A COUNTERFLOW HEAT EXCHANGER WHICH MAKES USE OF THE ENTHALPY OF THE COLD HELIUM 3 GAS PUMPED OUT OF THE STILL, AND BY SUBSEQUENT JOULE-THOMSON EXPANSION. THIS CONDENSER REPLACES THE USUAL HELIUM 4 CONDENSER.
