Summary
The IEA (International Energy Agency) Heat Pump Centre has recently reviewed the international heat pump status and policies relating to heat pumps. A market overview is presented for North America, Asia (China and Japan) and Europe. Current IEA work on heat pumps is incorporated. In 1996, about 90 million heat pumps were installed worldwide. Since 1992, the world market has grown with around 15% per year on average. Relatively strong market growth is observed in China and some European countries. On average, heat pumps meet 6% of the total space heat demand.
