Summary

DESCRIBES THREE SETS OF EXPERIMENTS CARRIED OUT ON THREE DIFFERENT TEST STANDS TO INVESTIGATE HOW THE INSTANTANEOUS COP DETERMINED UNDER STEADY STATE CONDITIONS ON TEST RIGS CAN BE RELATED TO THE EXPECTED SEASONAL COP IN ACTUAL INSTALLATIONS. INVESTIGATED WERE ELECTRIC AIR/WATER AND WATER/WATER HEAT PUMPS. FINDS THAT INSTANTANEOUS COP DETERMINED IN STEADY STATE CONDITIONS AND SEASONAL COP DETERMINED IN CYCLIC OPERATION ARE PRACTICALLY THE SAME IF THE VOLUME FLOWS TO THE HOT AND COLD SIDES OF THE HEAT PUMP ARE MAINTAINED ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTURER'S SPECIFICATIONS AND IF THE COPS ARE COMPARED FOR IDENTICAL MEAN HEAT SOURCE AND SUPPLY TEMPERATURES.
