Summary

PARAMAGNETIC EXCITATION OF MAGNONS AND PHONONS IN THE EASY PLANE ANTIFERROMAGNET IS INVESTIGATED BY UHF PUMPING AT A FREQUENCY 35.4 GHERTZ. THE EXPERIMENTS ARE CARRIED OUT IN THE 1.2 TO 180 K TEMPERATURE RANGE. THE DEPENDENCES OF THE PHONON RELAXATION FREQUENCY ON THE TEMPERATURE AND MAGNETIC FIELD STRENGTH ARE MEASURED. THE DEPENDENCES INDICATE THAT PHONON-MAGNON INTERACTION CONTRIBUTES SIGNIFICANTLY TO THE PHONON RELAXATION. A MAXIMUM OF PHONON RELAXATION IS OBSERVED AT 18 K WHICH CAN BE ATTRIBUTED TO THE PRESENCE OF IRON IMPURITY IONS IN THE CRYSTAL.
