Summary

LOW-TEMPERATURE RELAXATION OF MAGNONS IN THE ANTIFERRO-MAGNETIC IRON BORATE IS INVESTIGATED AT 35.4 GHERTZ AND TEMPERATURES BETWEEN 1.2 AND 20 K. THE TEMPERATURE AND FIELD DEPENDENCES OF THE MAGNON RELAXATION PARAMETER INDICATE THAT THE MAIN CONTRIBUTION AT T = 1.2-4.2 K IS FROM THREE-PARTICLE MAGNON-PHONON INTERACTIONS. THE CHARACTERISTIC MAGNON-PHONON INTERACTION ENERGY IS DETERMINED. IT IS SUGGESTED THAT THE PROBABILITY FOR SCATTERING OF MAGNONS BY PHONONS AT LOW TEMPERATURES SHOULD INCREASE IN THE PRESENCE OF MAGNETIC IMPURITY IONS IN THE CRYSTAL.
